Gzip compression for our HTTP(S) checks

We are very happy to announce that as of July 28 Monday August 4 we are implementing gzip compression in our HTTP and HTTPS checks.

It is important to us that our users get the best possible service, and adding gzip compression to our checks is a great way to get more accurate results. It will allow our checks to behave more like a real browser and the way they work when downloading content from your webpage.

Since the load times will be faster you might notice a slight drop to the Response Time of your checks. This is natural as adding gzip in the request header allows for compressed data to be received instead of uncompressed data – which takes longer time to download.

If you for any reason do not want to use gzip compression in the requests from your checks, this is how you can turn this off:

  1. Edit the check
  2. Click the Optional tab in the check editor.
    Optional tab
  3. Find the setting Request headers click +Add Header and add Accept-Encoding.

  4. Enter identity in the text field to the right.

  5. Save the changes

Your check will once again request uncompressed data.

If you have any questions or feedback regarding this do not hesitate to contact our support staff.
