CloudFlare adds free Pingdom website monitoring

CloudFlareWe’re happy to announce that starting today, CloudFlare users have super-easy access to the Pingdom uptime monitoring service via CloudFlare Apps. With just one click, they can set up a free Pingdom account to monitor their website.

We have to give credit to CloudFlare for encouraging independent monitoring of their service. Clearly, they have nothing to hide and want their users to stay on top of their website uptime and performance. That a service promotes transparency is always a good sign.

Wait, what’s CloudFlare?

CloudFlare, if you haven’t heard about it yet, is a relatively new service that acts as a kind of security- and performance-enhancing proxy for websites. You keep your regular web hosting account, but CloudFlare stands between your site and its visitors, protecting your site and making it faster for end users.

CloudFlare was a runner-up at last year’s TechCrunch Disrupt (there are many who feel they should have won), and they have been growing and enhancing the service ever since.

You can read more about how CloudFlare works on their site. If you’re already a CloudFlare user, here’s the Pingdom App for CloudFlare, and their own announcement.

P.S. Of course, if you already have a Pingdom account, it works just fine for monitoring CloudFlare-enhanced sites, getting alerts for downtime, and everything else you’ve come to expect from Pingdom.
